ICE HOCKEY

Ice hockey has exploded in popularity over the last few years. Since Hunter Ice Skating Stadium opened the doors, the local club in Newcastle has grown to over 300 members -from junior teams through to the Newcastle Star North Stars who represent the region in the Australian Ice Hockey League.

Ice hockey at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium is played in both Summer and Winter, with the Summer competition being more serious and the Winter competition being a little more relaxed - except for our rep teams.

If you'd like to know about either of these in-house competitions or the rep teams, just click HERE to go to the Newcastle North Stars Ice Hockey Club.

Ice Hockey Development Course

Do you want to learn to play Ice Hockey, one of the most exciting games on the planet? Come and join an amazing and challenging program which could take you up to the highest limits – ICE HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT

The structure of the program has been recently changed, from a 5 week block to a 8 - 10 week block to fit into a school term. This adjustment has been made in order to learn and develop the basic skills for a longer period of time.

The 10th week is for evaluation which would consist strictly on the skills learned, practiced and developed, throughout weeks 1 to 9.

There will no longer be 3 levels of abilities as at the start of the session the players will work together as group practicing basic skills like; stance, the stride and glide technique, stopping etc.

However through out the session the group will be divided into 2 subgroups; mainstream and beginners/newcomers. The reason for this is that the mainstream will start working on a progression of skills where the beginners will still be focusing on the basic skills. When a player from the beginner group during the weeks 1 to 9 proves he/she has reached the mainstream ability he/she will be moved into that group.

After the evaluation, any player who has completed the program will be invited to join a team in the local competition.

Cost is $10 per head per session and $3 extra if skate hire is required.
